LG Electronics unveils concepts of vehicular screen tech

LG Electronics Inc. has unveiled concepts for automotive electronics including a flexible display.

The company on Sunday said it launched the page Mobility Labworks Series on the official website of its Vehicle Component Solutions Division showing never-before-seen product concepts like three types of next-generation displays and two kinds of digital vehicle cockpits.

Unveiling product concepts to the public and its client automakers is considered unusual for LG Electronics. This could be part of the company's strategy to shed its image as a home appliance leader and expand its scope to automotive electronics, a promising growth engine.

The three vehicle displays use the form factor technologies featuring rollable, flexible and foldable screens. The Min&Max Display combines three screens -- the instrument panel and central and passenger seat displays -- into one in a curved L shape to allow selection of a wide or narrow screen as needed.

The other two screens are the Pop&Fold Display, which folds for storage in a thin dashboard and unfolds for use, and Flex&Slide Display, which allows control of the degree of screen bending.
