Samsung Electronics on Monday said its heat pump Eco Heating System (EHS), a green heating and cooling system, has seen explosive sales growth on the energy-starved European market.

From January to November this year, Sales of the company's EHS in Europe surged 118%, more than double the rate year on year, with those in Germany skyrocketing 30 fold and France 10 fold.

EHS is an air conditioning system that exchanges the heat created from the refrigerant and water in the air conditioner's indoor unit to generate heat energy to use in floor heating and hot water. Compared to boilers using conventional fuels, the Samsung device is highly efficient and produces less carbon dioxide, attracting attention in environmentally conscious Europe.

The EHS is rapidly grown as an alternative to conventional boilers among European consumers seeking lower heating costs and eco-friendly energy given their recent energy shortages.

In September, Samsung Electronics launched the heat pump system EHS Mono HT Quiet featuring high energy efficiency equipped with four quiet modes. The high-efficiency technology of refrigerant injection Turbo Flash Injection enables stable heating and hot water on cold days.

The company's EHS products have received an array of certifications in Europe including the Heat Pump Keymark, which guarantees the quality of such items by measuring energy efficiency and performance; one issued by Eurovent, or Europe's Industry Association for Indoor Climate (HVAC), Process Cooling and Food Cold Chain Technologies; and the Quiet Mark for low noise.

Integration of EHS, solar panels and energy storage systems creates a "net zero home."

Based on the smart meter service SmartThings Energy, energy from solar panels is used for heating and hot water, with surplus power going to an energy storage device for use when needed. An artificial intelligence mode of energy conservation helps a home appliance save energy if the target power usage is exceeded.

Choi Ick-soo, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Consumer Electronics Division, said, "Samsung Electronics' EHS is recognized on the European market with a diverse lineup through continuous technological development," adding, "We will expand sales to a wider area on the Continent starting with leading countries like Germany and France."
