Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Samsung C&T Corp.'s construction unit andannounced on Tuesday that they have signed a strategic business agreement related to "establishing an eco-system for construction robots and joint research and development."
Both companies plan to jointly pursue demonstration projects to increase the practical application of robots in construction sites, as well as to run a permanent R&D cooperation system to minimize duplicate investments in similar technologies during the development of robots and Internet-of-Things (IoT) applications, and to focus on research on safety-related robots.
In addition, they plan to establish a construction robot sector alliance to continuously expand research, development and commercialization networks.
Samsung C&T established a construction robotics team last year, and has been focusing on research and development in the field of construction robots to improve construction site safety, quality and productivity.
Hyundai E&C has also been increasing its capabilities in the field of construction robots, such as developing patrol robots for construction sites and unmanned construction robots, since establishing a dedicated organization in 2020.
