Under the agreement, Korean Air will purchase GE9X and GEnx engines for the planes it has agreed to buy from Boeing by 2033: 20 Boeing 777-9s and up to 30 Boeing 787-10s.
The GE9X is specifically designed for the Boeing 777-9, the latest model in the long-range, wide-body and twin-engine Boeing 777 family. The GEnx is suited for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
The order also includes services for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of the GE9X engines. With this order, Korean Air becomes the first GE9X customer in South Korea.
The GE9X is the world's most powerful commercial aircraft engine and the most fuel-efficient engine in its class, GE Aerospace said in a statement.
