South Korean game developer NCSOFT Corp. announced on Friday that it won first place at this year’s Artificial Intelligence Grand Challenge, hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
The ministry has hosted the annual competition, operated by the Institute of Information and Communication Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP), since 2019.
In the tournament, competitors duke it out by solving a set of problems using their own research findings. In total, 175 teams encompassing 935 people have taken part in the event since its launch in 2019.
The Vision AI Lab within NCSOFT’s AI Center competed in the event under the name VARCO.
This year’s challenge involved collecting data with drones in a natural disaster scenario.
