South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. announced a partnership with domestic video game developer Nexon Co. on Monday to release the world's first video game that incorporates HDR10+ GAMING technology.
Samsung's gaming monitor Odyssey and Nexon's new title The First Descendant will be unveiled in Gamescom 2023, Europe's largest gaming expo to be held in Cologne, Germany.
HDR10+ GAMING is an advanced High Dynamic Range (HDR) standard, that aims to immerse gamers in an environment of richer color, more profound contrast, and increased brightness. Jointly developed by HDR10+ Technologies LLC, which was co-founded by Samsung in 2018, the technology provides a seamless and responsive gaming experience.
In addition to improving visual fidelity, HDR10+ GAMING offers low latency and variable refresh rate support, removing manual adjustments and enabling nearly instantaneous gameplay responses.
Samsung has already integrated this state-of-the-art HDR technology into its existing product line. It is available on Odyssey gaming monitors starting from the 7 Series released last year and on QLED 70 and 80 Series, OLED, and Neo QLED TVs that support refresh rates of 120Hz or higher.
The company has been a trailblazer in HDR tech, having co-founded HDR10+ Technologies LLC and nurtured an ecosystem that now counts 155 partners and more than 7,000 certified devices, including a range of TVs, monitors, smartphones, and tablets.
Gamers worldwide can anticipate experiencing this next-level HDR gaming firsthand, as an open beta test for The First Descendant is slated to begin on September 19.
