South Korea's major power plant builder Doosan Enerbility Co. said on Thursday it won a contract with Canadian nuclear reactor manufacturer Candu Energy to supply feeder pipes for the refurbishment project of Unit 1 at the Cernavoda Nuclear Plant in Romania.
This is Doosan Energy's fifth feeder pipe order after China and Canada.
Feeder pipes are the main equipment of a pressurized water reactor. It's the pipe through which the coolant flows to regulate the reactor temperature.
Doosan Enerbility will deliver 1,520 feeder pipes to Candu Energy by 2027.
These pipes will be utilized in the equipment improvement project of Unit 1, undertaken by the Romanian Nuclear Agency.
The agency promotes a refurbishment project to extend the operating license of Unit 1 at Cernavoda by 30 years, ahead of its expiration in 2026.
In October last year, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Candu Energy, and Italy's Ansaldo Nucleare formed a consortium to execute the Unit 1 improvement project, paving the way for the third phase.
