Hyundai Rotem unveils lamination press for EV motor cores

South Korea's Hyundai Rotem Co. announced on Wednesday that it unveiled a lamination press for electric vehicle (EV) motor cores at its Dangjin plant in South Chungcheong Province.

The lamination press is equipment that produces motor cores by layering thin steel sheets, and Hyundai Rotem can manufacture motor cores for EVs using this developed equipment.

The motor core is a crucial component responsible for providing power in EVs, performing a role similar to that of internal combustion engines in conventional vehicles.

Hyundai Rotem introduced its lamination press, equipped with a device to balance the equipment even in high-speed processes, ensuring high precision.

This device can strike the stacked steel sheets up to 300 times per minute.

The company also explained that it minimized equipment vibrations by applying casting materials to absorb vibrations on the stacking press frame.

It can be applied to large-sized molds with increased process frequency.

"With the localization of this lamination press, we can achieve faster delivery compared to overseas competitors," a Hyundai Rotem source said.
