South Korea's Hyundai Rotem Co. announced on Friday that it signed a contract with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) to supply additional bi-level commuter rail cars for Boston.
The contract is valued at 240 billion won ($177 million).
The Boston bi-level commuter cars project is part of the MBTA's efforts to address the increasing demand for commuter services and replace aging vehicles.
This marks the third time Hyundai Rotem has supplied bi-level commuter cars to the MBTA.
Previously, Hyundai Rotem first won the MBTA bi-level commuter cars project in 2008 and later signed an additional supply contract for the same project in 2019.
