South Korea's Kakao Corp. said on August 23 that its mobile solution development subsidiary dK Techin Corp. will merge with its AI technology affiliate Kakao Brain.
The merger is slated to take effect on October 1.
DK Techin, specializing in system integration (SI) and IT support services within Kakao's subsidiaries, will be integrated into Kakao Brain.
This move is part of Kakao's ongoing efforts to streamline its subsidiaries.
The company has already reduced the number of its subsidiaries from 138 to 123 this year.
Before this merger, DK Techin merged with KEP, a former subsidiary of Kakao Enterprise, in March.
Kakao Brain plans to spin off its healthcare division to establish a new company called CXR Lab.
Furthermore, Kakao Brain's AI development team was absorbed into Kakao in June.
