LIG Nex1 Co. said on Wednesday that it held an "AI Co-Lab" opening ceremony at the Seoul office of the Korea Institute of Robot and Convergence (KIRO) URI-Lab located in Seoul's Suseo on the previous day.
LIG Nex1 and KIRO opened the lab to work together in tech development related to Haegeom-II, Haegeom-III, and Haegeom-V, which are projects to develop different versions of unmanned surface vessels. The AI Co-Lab will perform tasks such as collecting AI data and constructing datasets for maritime obstacle detection while operating USVs.
LIG Nex1's Unmanned Systems Research Center and KIRO's Research Headquarters plan to jointly develop critical technologies in the unmanned surface vessel project, such as securing data on major maritime obstacles along the coast, maritime obstacle detection AI models, and obstacle avoidance technologies.
"We will work hard to make meaningful contributions to the self-reliant national defense of Korea through the development of AI detection technology," said Lee Seung-young, head of LIG Nex1's C4ISTAR R&D Division 2.
