Jacket foundations for wind generators Samkang M&T, a subsidiary of SK Ecoplant Co., has signed a contract to supply jacket foundations for offshore wind generators to a Japanese company.
A jacket foundation is a fixed offshore wind power substructure to support offshore wind generators.
The company said on Thursday it signed a supply deal with Nippon Steel Engineering to manufacture jacket components for 220-MW wind farms to be installed in Kitakyushu, Japan.
This is the first time a Korean company inked a deal to export offshore wind power jacket components to Japan.
It further solidified its presence in the overseas market, signing supply deals in 2019 with global wind farm developers such as Orsted in Denmark and Jan De Nul NV (JDN) in Belgium.
Its exports surpassed $300 million on a cumulative basis as of the end of last year.
"We plan to stand out in advanced offshore wind power markets such as North America and Europe as well as East Asian markets such as Japan and Taiwan," said Lee Seung-chul, CEO of Samkang M&T.
