HMM's Indian-Mediterranean container route
South Korea’s HMM Co. has opened a container route to India and the Mediterranean.
In addition to serving the US and Europe, the container shipping and transportation company is expanding to emerging markets such as India.
HMM on Tuesday said it opened an exclusive container route connecting Far East Asia, India and the Mediterranean.
The maiden voyage starts on August 6 from Busan and returns to the southern port city via India and Spain after a roundtrip of 84 days.
HMM will deploy 11,000 twenty-foot equivalent (TEU)-class container ships and seek to expand its portfolio to enhance competitiveness. This month, the company opened its Korea Haiphong Service to Haiphong, Vietnam, through collaboration with its affiliates.
“Recently, the Indian market is booming with the world's highest average annual growth of over 7%,” an HMM source said. “We will boost our service network by expanding our business scope to emerging markets such as India and Vietnam.”
