South Korea’s Samsung SDI Co. on Wednesday said all of its domestic business sites received the highest grade of Platinum in the Zero Waste to Landfill certification of the US-based global safety science specialist UL Solutions.
The certification is divided into the grades Platinum (100%), Gold (95%-99%), and Silver (90%-94%) depending on the waste recycling rate. Samsung SDI’s plants in Giheung, Gyeonggi Province, and Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, were both graded Platinum for the second consecutive year after posting a 100% rate this year.
The company’s facilities in Cheonan in North Chungcheong, Ulsan, Gumi in North Gyeongsang Province and Suwon in Gyeonggi were also newly rated as Platinum, the highest among all domestic plants. The company’s goal is to complete certification of all of its overseas business sites this year.
“Zero Waste to Landfill certification is part of our eco-friendly management to emerge as a global top-tier company by 2030,” Samsung SDI President Choi Yoon-ho said.
