Samsung Electronics Co. announced on Thursday that it has successfully completed the opening of a 5th-generation mobile communications (5G) pilot network for Dish Network, the fourth-largest mobile carrier in the United States, in just nine months.
In May of last year, Samsung had been selected as a large-scale communications equipment supplier for Dish Network and installed 5G mobile communications virtual base stations and radio devices to support various frequency bands.
This is not the first time Samsung has built 5G mobile communications virtual base stations, having done so previously for Verizon Communications in the US in Dec. 2020 and for Vodafone plc in the UK in Jan. 2022.
Lee Jun-hee, head of strategic marketing at Samsung Electronics' network division, expressed the company's commitment to continuing the development of future networks and building sustainable networks with chipsets and next-generation software technologies that integrate the company's core competencies.
