LG Uplus publishes white paper on 6G services

South Korea's LG Uplus Corp. said on Wednesday the release of its "6G White Paper: Non-Terrestrial Networks," which explores the future direction of 6G mobile communications services.

It presents strategies for enabling global communications services using low Earth orbit (LEO), medium Earth orbit (MEO), and geostationary orbit (GEO) satellites, which support non-terrestrial networks.

Non-terrestrial networks utilize ground-based base stations, communications satellites, and high-altitude platform stations (HAPS) via unmanned aircraft, leveraging aerial and space infrastructure.

Once commercialized, it is expected to overcome limitations in communications range, such as altitude and distance, for new services like urban air mobility (UAM) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV).

LG Uplus predicted that satellite data centers combining satellites and edge computing will be established in the 6G era.
