South Korea's Samkang M&T Co., a specialist in offshore wind plants and shipbuilding, has been renamed SK oceanplant under a strategy to raise the company's corporate value by externally promoting its status as an SK Group affiliate.
Environmental and energy solution company SK ecoplant on Wednesday announced the name change for its subsidiary and introduced the latter's new corporate image. SK oceanplant is a combination of the words "ocean" and "plant" meaning planting.
Acquired by SK ecoplant in November last year, SK oceanplant mainly manufactures turbines and substructures for offshore wind power.
In 2021, SK oceanplant won an order in Taiwan to build a facility worth 600 billion won ($490.9 million). Its operating profit rebounded from a deficit in 2019 to 29 billion won in the black a year later.
